Artfully Planning a Successful Art Brand

The start of any success story usually involves some sort of plan. Without a plan, there is no direction. As an artist, you may thrive on making on the fly decisions with no prior planning, and sometimes this can lead to amazing results. But when it comes to the success of your art career and building your brand relying on these types of occurrences is ill-advised. When developing a new social media strategy to progress your art brand, it is important to follow some steps and layout how it will all to play out.

The steps

  • After deciding that you want to run some promotions or a campaign for your brand, it is important to decide the goal of your campaign. Setting these SMART Goals are key in determining the direction of your plan and what you need to do. If you’re just a budding brand, you may want to focus on brand awareness rather than trying to push merchandise.
    • In conjunction with this, you also need to set SMART objectives that will inevitably lead up to your main goal.
  • After setting your goals and objectives, it’s important to decide what metrics you are going to track to see if your promotional efforts are successful. This is the aspect of the plan that will help you decide if what you are doing is leading to the results you desire. For instance, if you’re focusing on building awareness you may want to track something like follower count and impressions. This will help you determine how many people are seeing your art and followers count will tell you whether the people seeing your ad are interested.
  • An IMPORTANT step when building your campaign is having an understanding of who your audience actually is. As you develop your campaign you should always be keeping in mind your actual audience is. Observe who they are and how they interact with your brand and how they would like to be interacted with, don’t just assume.
  • When you know your audience, you need to decide how you’re going to reach them. What are you going to do that will make them want to view your artwork?

Helpful Hints

Throughout your whole journey, it is important to keep checking in on your metrics. It may seem common practice to check your metrics at the end of the promotion/campaign, but this is not best practice. It is important to keep track of the progress of your campaign throughout the whole time is running and make changes. No plan is set in stone so making changes mid-campaign to better make use of your money is important.

When setting your smart goals and designing your campaign it is imperative that you to stay focused. As you add more goals and objectives to your campaign it becomes easier to get lost and lose sight of what you are trying to achieve. Ideally, set it up so you have one (maybe two) goal and a few objectives and some tactics and strategies on how you will achieve those goals.

No plan is perfect, regardless of how it looks on paper. As you promotion runs keep an eye on it and further optimize it as you learn more about your audience and what works for your brand.
